Essential Guide to Autism 2007 Survey Results are In!

Two weeks ago I sent a a survey invitation to a random selection of Essential Guide to Autism newsletter subscribers inviting them to complete an online survey about their relationship to and experiences with Autism.

The survey was open for week, closing last Thursday. Exactly 500 people completed the survey and I’m currently in the process of compiling the results.

Once compiled, the results will be emailed to those who completed the survey as promised and will also be available to anyone else who is interested.

And I think you will be.

There have been some surprising results that stand out just from my initial review of the responses.

Here’s a sample of some of the questions that were asked:

1. What Relationship do you have with the person who has autism or suspected autism?
Overwhelmingly, the responses were from parents or guardians, with grandparents and other relatives making up the second largest group of respondents.

2. What is the age of the person with either suspected or diagnosed autism?
80% of respondents said the person with autism or suspected autism were under the age of 12.

3. Which products or services have you used in the past that have been helpful to you?
This was an open-ended question and the responses make for fascinating reading.

I’m currently collating all the information provided. There is a huge variety of products or services being used by you to stay up to date with the latest news and information about autism, with books and websites being the most popular.

A number of books and particular websites appeared time and again and I’ll be listing the top ones as rated by you.

4. What Autism related treatments have you used, and how would you rate them?
Wow, what an eye opener the incredibly varied answers to this question were.

It sure goes to confirm just how many different treatment options there are available. (over 75 different treatment options were mentioned in a positive light).

Again, I will be collating these into groups and listing the top treatments.

I would like to take this opportunity also to announce that the winner of the Prize Draw was Tina G from Lawton, Oklahoma.

Tina, your copy of ‘Understanding Autism for Dummies’ was posted on Friday last week (from the UK) so should be with you shortly.

So, for now I would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to all the people who completed The Essential Guide to Autism 2007 survey. I really appreciate your time and all the information you provided.

I will be in touch again soon once the survey results have been compiled with information on how to get a copy.
